The word is out again about future Macs receiving a HDMI port. The lastest come from AppleInsider via a post about a Mac mini spotted within the usual circle that carried such a port in the back.
Well here’s some early analysis from me that will attempt to explain everything.
Give it up people. HDMI will never be seen on a Mac. This rumor has been circling on the web since HDMI standard was first approved half way through the DVI lifespan. What you will see is likely a revised mini DisplayPort that also carries audio. Because DisplayPort and HDMI are complying standards, you will likely see an adapter being included that would output to HDMI.
But then again, there are already mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters from Kanex. The difference is not all Mac models carry audio through this port.
Heck, you already get 2-way transport through the mini DisplayPort on the new 27″ iMacs. I doubt Apple is going to backtrack and support an ‘inferior’ standard.
But then again… It is Apple. They’ll do crazy things just because they can.
