Apple’s iPod is undoubtly one of the most innovating products of the 21st century. It replaced all the physical media players successfully. And emerged from being just a digital audio player to an all around media player and now a legitimate challenge to handheld consoles as well with the new iPod Touch 2G.

iPod is certainly not the first digital audio player, but it did it right and quickly became the defacto standard.

Steve Jobs came out yesterday and announced a brand new generation of iPod Nano, Classic and Touch. There is only one Classic now, at 120 GB, the Nano comes in many popular colours and the new Touch is the skinniest Touch device yet.

Check out Gizmodo’s iPod timeline, shows you how much they were and the times of their release.

PS: I still think the iPhone is the best iPod ever made. Certainly from my financial point of view. Since I need a mobile phone anyways, why not have the best media player built-in? Genius Apple!
