WordPress 2.7 RC2
Well I bit the bullet and installed WordPress 2.7 Release Candidate 2 today. On 2.6.5 I experienced a weird bug where the Visual editor stopped working properly. It was a weird bug and judging from the forum posts the WP team was mostly working on the new 2.7 releases so I abandoned any hope fixing 2.6.5 and just did the 2.7 RC2 upgrade.
Funny thing the bug was replicated in 2.7 RC2. After all else has failed (disabled all plug-ins, looked at various config files, etc) I gave the new internal upgrade system a try. It updated to the latest stable nightly release and the bug disappeared! *joy*
The new Dashboard looks fantastic. It’s a little slower than what I’ve been used to but I think that has more to do with my server than WordPress itself. I’ll look at this recessed performance a little bit more when I have time.
Best feature of 2.7 that definitely warrant the beta upgrade: Upgrade is now built-in as a function in Dashboard. No more downloading the release and re-uploading all the files then comparing wp-config.php. This has simplified things a lot more.
Best of all, no more Fantastico. Even though I stopped using that system ages ago I’m sure many still rely on it.
